Film Noir Final Review

Film Noir Final Review

Overall, I believe that our finished film in the film noir genre was amazing and, in my opinion, better than last term’s project for sure. Mostly because my group spent ample time figuring out an exceptional plot and solving every single detail possible. We finished our storyboard and shortlist on time, by sharing the load equally thus the pressure was much lower than last term. My group made sure not to waste anytime and we even came to film during lunch most days and after school, also we made sure to order our equipment days in advance so we were more prepared and didn’t waste anytime. Our film in general was a great representation of what we visioned and really depicted the film noir genre due to the great amount of harsh shadows and lighting, and our classic black and white filter. I truly believe that i was able to demonstrate my ideas and knowledge through this film as my group was very understanding and too had the drive to make the best film possible, i know that this was a step up from last term, and I’m very happy about this film.

Some improvements we could’ve made to our final film according to the rest of our peers were to adjust and improve the loudness of the background music as at some points in our production the music over powered the dialogue, which should’ve been clear as it also gave us insight to further details in the complicated and twisted plot. Also there were some shots that were a little too dark thus you were not able to see details and expressions on character’s faces. We could’ve received and asked for more feedback too further improve finer details and understand what others find appealing and what could be changed.

Again according to feedback we presented the plot well and clear, as our peers were able to identify who the characters were and the key elements that brought the story together. The shots, and uses of lighting to create dramatic and ‘film noir’ shots were also appreciated as they really emphasised the genre and brought another dimension to the film. The choice of characters (e.g. femme fatale) , props (e.g. use of “alcohol”) , and key idea (e.g. affair + murder) of the film too depicted the film noir genre/ era. The length of our project too, was reasonable and fit the expectations, being 2:59s, and the film was supposed to be 2-3mins, which we were proud of as we had just enough time to develop characters, plot and further details.

When we finished creating our film, by watching the outcome the work and effort was all worth it. We were all really pleased with the outcome as we were able to convey our story and skills through this project, and became to understand the different elements of Film Noir how useful it is, and how we can use these ideas on lighting, characters to incorporate into our future films.
