Music Video Project Compared To Previous Projects
Personally, I found that this term’s project was much better than previous, because of the large amount of planning we did and how efficient we were with completing our filming within the first two weeks of being given the project. We also immediately started editing which gave us time to experiment with Final Cut on a higher level. Afterwards, we had around a week of lessons of final adjustments and for blog entries. This project was actually very enjoyable and fun, as we did not have to rush our process. Previous projects were mush more stressful, as we did not do much planning and left things to the last minute. Also in the first term, my group was not motivated thus i had to do all the work which thus put more stress on me and i began to not like it. Compared to this project, Brianna and I made a perfect team as we were both motivated and wanted to produce the best outcome possible.
Music Video Problems
During the making process of the music video, I encountered the following problems;
-Finding a time to film. As Brianna had a bust weekend schedule almost every weekend, it was hard to find time where we were both free. We also had to make sure we had plenty of time to go to the multiple places in order to get the shots we wanted.
-Problem with amount of footage. We did collect a great amount of footage, but we did not try to retake any shots thus we did not have an assortment to choose from, to choose the most perfect shot possible.
-Also i encountered some technical difficulties. At one point during the end of my editing process, my final cut experienced a difficulty where my footage disappeared. Luckily, this was easily fixed with the help of Mr. Andrews, as all we had to do was simply upload the footage once again and all was fixed.
Other than these experiences the rest of filming, editing and planning was easy and was simple.

MUSIC VIDEO CLIP TREATMENT
Names of group members Maya Huf + Brianna Free
Song selected Changes by XXX Tentacion
Type of clip (Highlight your choice/s)
performance / narrative / collage
Concept for clip
Explain what narrative/images the clip will contain It is a narrative and collage.
The images will signify the relationship + journey a couple will take from first meeting, till the girl’s end. It will highlight their time together and the cute things and rituals that made up their relationship. It will be from the guy’s perspective the whole time, as the beginning he would be lonely then changing into a happy and content one with the love of his life, yet everything changes yet again, and he is left lonely once again.
Message
What message will your clip contain or what is its purpose?
Style
What look and feel will your clip have? The messages behind the music video is that love can change your life for the better and is a beautiful and fulfilling thing everyone should be able to experience. And another message is about how life continuously changes and not always for the better.
Technical codes
Explain the ideas you have about camera work, transition devices, lighting, special effects, framing and composition So we would like the whole music video to be shot as if it comes from the male’s perspective, thus we can only see from his points of view. We would like to use lighting to highlight the low and high points in his life. It would be darker and more dull toned at the beginning and end of the video as she is not in his life at these points, and would be vibrant and full of colour when she is there.
Audio codes
What is the song about and how do the lyrics relate to the visuals you have selected? Will you be adding an additional sound? The song is about a girl that is changing his life in both positive and negative aspects of life and in some way she has hurt him, thus her death has caused pain and suffering in his now lonely life again.
Pace
What sort of pace does your song have and how will this be reflected and created in your clip?
Written codes
If you are using any written codes, what text will you use? What is its significance?
Symbolic codes
Will there be any symbols in your clip and what will they be? Will you repeat any images or use a motif? How will the symbolism you have used contribute to the message of your clip? The pace is rather slow yet rhythmic and contains builds, therefore we can contains both long sets footage and create fast cuts between others to create moods and represent their times together.
There will be a necklace that he shall give to her a one point in the video that symbolises their love and connection. She will wear this throughout the video and will be placed upon her grave, to show that his love for her is forever.
Key elements of mise-en-scene to be used
Explain the settings needed and outline key props and costumes needed The beach, Pac-Fair, a coffee shop, Southport cemetery, pool, park and we also need the neckless. The multiple locations will signify there time together and the amount of memories they share.
Appeal
What things in your clip do you think will appeal to a youth audience? The plot twist of the girl being dead in the end would be quite a shock and the moments together would be pleasing and cute.

Year 10 Media Arts Genre trailer editing task – Term 03 Mr. Andrews
Self-reflection and evaluation:
Please answer each question using complete sentences to justify your responses, include as much detail and provide examples where possible.
Planning and Reflection:
• Explain how closely your synopsis and justification related to the final trailer. My synopsis was roughly similar to my final piece as I kept certain aspects the same, and changed others to best fit the trailer.
• Did you make use of the list of key shots and genre elements to assemble your trailer? Explain how. I did use the shot list to compose the trailer and to be able to place the most effective shots in the right places. I also used the shot list, to identify certain shots and sounds e.g, dialogue or phrases, to bring more life, and realism to trailer.
• List some steps that you could have implemented to improve the planning stage of this task. I would have maybe made a physical story board, or rough drafts in the planning stages to be able to play around with multiple shots and be sure of what I want in the trailer, thus I would have a precise and complete plan so i could sit down and know what task should be done instead of improvising at times.
• Discuss how effectively you used your blog, to reflect on both the planning and editing stages. I used my blog to reflect upon multiple plans and shot-lists and to keep track on my progress and ideas. My work on my blog reflects my progression from an idea to an actual trailer.
Production and time-management
• Did the editing require more or less time than you thought? The editing most definitely required more time than i was expecting as i was used to using iMovie, which is very basic in comparison, and with the use of Final Cut i was able to control all aspects of my trailer.
• Which aspect of editing did you find most challenging? Personally, i found editing on the beat was quite difficult because you really have to put a-lot of time and effort into it and if one shot if off then the whole trailer may look out of place.
• How effectively did you manage your Final cut project? (consider your use of libraries, events, projects and duplicates). Very well because from the very beginning i had my library and event sorted and placed on my USB and i had two seperate copies so i would risk loosing anything.
• How effectively did you use technology to manage your task, and what would you change for next project? (Consider correct USB or storage device, backups, laptop borrowing etc.) From the very beginning i had the correct USB, and i was able to borrow a laptop to complete my project over the long weekend.
• Did you encounter any problems or difficulties during production? (Difficulties may include; technical, time-management, loss of data/media etc.) How did this effect your project? I believe i did not use my time effectively in class and did most of my production outside of class and a portion of my trailer towards the end of the given time, which made me quite stressed towards the end but i was able to complete it to the best of my abilities, and i was content with how it turned out.
Looking back on your editing task this term, respond to the following:
• Would like to change or improve any aspects of your film (storyline, shots, editing etc.)? I would like to touch up my dialogue as it did sound a little rough and not a smooth transition with the background music.
• After viewing the other films made by your classmates, were there any particular editing techniques which you found inspiring? Explain why. I really like how Laura’s sound and trailer linked so well as there was a section with very fast, sudden beat and she edited the shots so they would change exactly on the beat, and there was also a very prominent build up with both the pace of music and shots.
As this task focused on emphasising a specific genre, explain:
Which specific trailer production techniques you implemented to develop/enhance your narrative? (You should refer to the techniques listed on the task sheet). I was able to use a gradual build, where at the beginning of my horror trailer it began to build tension, then the tension kept building until intense music began to play and it turned from a slow paced to a fast paced and intense horror trailer.
• Please explain which aspect you chose to focus on for this task and whether you were successful in making improvements. I would hope to improve my editing skills, as this project being my first time using Final Cut I would like to improve my fluency and skills, thus to make it easier to edit in the future and I hope to uncover new techniques.
