The Silent Place

“The Silent Place”

Over the holiday i watched a film called ‘The Silent Place’, and i really enjoyed this film as horror is by far my favourite genre, however this was not a typical horror film. This film had very little sound all through the film, therefore the actors had to be very expressive to tell the story. Every time they make a sound, big or small, you would cringe inside, waiting upon something bad to happen, this caused a great deal of tension.

I really liked the way that they emphasised something so common and taken for granted, being sound, and turn it into something so deadly, and something to fear. The overall lighting for the film was very dark, as most of the film was during the night. They also used framing to show just how decimated and alone this family was during their fight for survival. The director was able to capture the great landscapes and this added to the loneliness, as no one was there except them.

This image from the movie emphasises the loneliness, and how week people are compared to the force of nature around them.

This image shows the way of life this family has come to adapt to as they must be silent in order to survive. At the dinner table seems to be a time they can all come together and reflect on the day. Also it is a time to be thankful for living through another day.
